Job Description: Raytheon is seeking an experienced candidate for our Systems, Integration and Test (SEIT) Engineer position who will join our team in maintaining the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Common Ground System (CGS), a state-of-the-art ground station for the next generation of low earth orbiting environmental satellites. This system provides global coverage, monitors environmental conditions, collects, disseminates and processes data about the Earth's weather, atmosphere, oceans, land and near-space environment. The successful candidate for this position will possess at least 6 years of Systems Engineering experience and some experience supporting satellite ground system operations. The successful candidate for this position will support one of two specific product teams depending on background, skills and interests. The Space-to-Ground Interface (SGI) team focusses on Ground Hardware designed to collect and process Stored Mission Data and Telemetry and Command data from the satellites. The Enterprise Security and Infrastructure team provides cross-product engineering solutions including the Enterprise Management software product designed to monitor Ground System status and provide real time feedback to on-shift operators. The team member will be required to interact with a wide range of program personnel, working both collaboratively with teammates and independently to complete specific tasks. Additional tasks include attending technical interchange meetings, representing the organization in matters pertaining to one’s area(s) of CGS responsibility, documenting system issues and resolutions, participating in change management boards at multiple program levels, providing input to standard operating procedures and other technical guidance, reviewing documents, and providing status on assigned tasks. The CGS is a large, complex, and geographically distributed system and team members depend on each others’ expertise in different subsystems to solve problems, so fluid communication, cooperation and cohesion among all team members is a requirement for success. The work environment is fast-paced, requiring high-energy and commitment. This position exists within a continuous-learning environment where all team members are expected to share knowledge and have the confidence and curiosity to acquire new skills that may be outside of one’s particular academic background or previous work experience. Required Skills: Minimum of 6 years Systems Engineering experience Experience with satellite ground operations Experience troubleshooting software and hardware systems Experience with computers, storage, and networking technologies Experience with both Windows Server and UNIX/Linux operating systems Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to successfully communicate essential technical information to those outside of one’s particular engineering discipline or area of expertise Ability to adapt to rapidly changing tasking direction Ability to manage time and resources in order to meet assigned deadlines Availability to travel US Citizenship status is required as this position will need a US Secret Security Clearance within 1 year of start date Desired Skills: Familiarity with HP Open View COTS product Familiarity with COTS server hardware and willingness to learn more specialized ground station hardware Experience with shell scripting or other scripting languages such as Perl Familiarity with NAS/SAN storage Familiarity with Desktop/Server Virtualization Familiarity with security engineering and/or network engineering Familiarity with systems engineering techniques and life-cycle management Required Education (including Major): Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college. Prefer Engineering or related discipline (Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Physics, Math), but other majors will be considered depending on strength of work experience.
